Xiaxue (Simplified Chinese: 下雪, real name Wendy Cheng) is a blogger in Singapore. She started her blog in 2003. Her blog attracts a bit less than 20,000 readers every day with her take on current events and her life.[citation needed] She blogs about various topics, ranging from methods of measuring penises to dumb starfish and MRT irritants. She is also known to be rather defensive towards criticism.[1][2]

She is frequently featured in the Singaporean media. On 15 January 2006, she was accused of impersonating a rival blogger.[2]

Cheng has worked as a columnist for The New Paper (a Singapore tabloid), Maxim magazine and Snag magazine. She used to be part of The Straits Times Online STOMP's panel of Star Bloggers, but was fired after failing to meet her obligation of being available for a one-hour online chat every Wednesday. [3]

Her pseudonym, Xiaxue, means "snowing" in Chinese.

On 10 November 2005, Xiaxue was ranked as the 5th most powerful woman in the blogosphere by Jack of all Blogs, placing her amongst the ranks of Xeni Jardin of Boing Boing and Heather Armstrong of Dooce. December 2006 saw the debut of Girls Out Loud, a reality television show hosted by her and DJ Rosalyn Lee.

Xiaxue's blog has won several online awards, mostly for popularity: Best Singapore Blog 2003, Best Asian Blog 2004, and 2005 Bloggies Best Asian Weblog.[4]

On July 16 2007, Xiaxue posted an article about the 7 Most Disgusting Bloggers in the Singaporean Blogosphere.[5] This has caused a lot of controversy and drama in the local blogosphere. All of them rebuked, but Steven Lim, one of the victims, rebuked by posting his response via video on YouTube.

In 2007, after her TV show "Girls Out Loud" ended its run, Xiaxue appeared in a web-based show with her "Girls Out Loud" co-host Rosalyn Lee called "Road Trip" which ran for 8 episodes.

Xiaxue currently has her own ongoing web-based show called "Xiaxue's Guide To Life" which is running on the web-based TV network clicknetwork.tv

Xiaxue has been criticised for the use of expletives in her entries.[6]

On 20 July 2005, Xiaxue's blog was hacked into and defaced; the hacker also gained access to her e-mail account and deleted all her e-mails. She regained access to her blog and e-mail account two hours after discovering the hacking, and made a police report.[7][8][9] The local Internet community condemned the hacking.[8][10][11] As of 2007, the hacker has yet to be caught.[7]

In a post she made on 16 October 2005, Xiaxue criticised a disabled man who scolded an able-bodied man for trying to use a toilet for the disabled.[12] After receiving hundreds of complaints from angry netizens, two of her three then-sponsors cancelled their endorsement deals with her.[13][14][15]

In a post she made on 28 December 2005, Xiaxue wrote that Singaporean girls were repeatedly molested by foreign workers at Orchard Road, and suggested that foreign workers be banned from Orchard Road.[16] The post, which the local Internet community condemned as "racist",[17][18] prompted an angry netizen to start a petition to ban the blogger from Orchard Road.[18][19]

[edit] Personal life

On 12 December 2006, Xiaxue got a free nose job by Dr Martin Huang, a consultant plastic surgeon.[20] The whole process or most of it, was filmed in the show "Girls Out Loud" with her being the host.

She is currently co-habiting with her caucasian boyfriend, Mike despite parental objections. This behaviour is frowned upon in traditional conservative Asian culture as it will result in a serious dampening of Xiaxue's bridal price when she is married off. Whether anyone will marry her or not remains to be seen.

Isn't Xiaxue so god damn popular?

In merely 2 days or so, with just a simple topic exposing, in her opinion, the "Top 7 Most Disgusting Bloggers" (in the Singapore blogosphere), the whole Singapore blogosphere starts talking about it (including my bro and my "friend" that just started "blogging").

Ironic isn't it. Who else can create such a stir...

What can I say. She is most definitely the Queen of us (bloggers) all. Her words simply strikes deep into our hearts causing a chemical reaction within each and every one of us. A reaction that we all cannot seem to control. And the results? We end up blogging about the topic she does. Impressive isn't it?

I feel somewhat brain washed to do her every bidding, don't you? Of course you do, I mean, how many of us are talking about this topic? Should I go within the lines of, countless?

Oh well...

The question now is, will these "Top 7 Most Disgusting Bloggers" fire back?

Okay, probably not all 7 fired back, max would probably be, let's say... 6? Afterall, Xiaxue wouldn't rebuke herself right? - Yes, I'm being lame, as usual?

Now, let us all take a quick glance through the "after effects" of the latest HOT topic.

No. 1 - Steven Lim (http://www.stevenlim.net)

Top of the chart, we have the "amazing", Steven Lim!

To be honest, I'm quite impressed with the so-called determination and confidence he has in himself. However, I really think his language needs quite a bit of brushing up.

His response to this "issue":

Get what I mean?

Why is he on the list by the way? He's a blogger? I always thought is was just a wannabe celebrity. Oh well, guess I was wrong?

P/s: I didn't get his so-called, well illustrated (oh dear god I have sinned) "response" from his so-called blog. In fact, I got it from my bro, and apparently he didn't get it from "his" blog either. So much for defining him as a blogger...

No. 2 - Maia Lee

Apparently she (as in Maia) doesn't actually own a blog? Perhaps she does, but I'm not aware of it, so yeah, "she doesn't own a blog".

* A sudden lost of words *

For a moment, I kinda forgot what I wanted to say... Where was I?

Oh yes. The media got to her before she could blog about it, though she doesn't have a blog. Unfortunately, I DO NOT read Chinese newspapers, I find it difficult to keep up with the English one already. Don't torture me with Chinese?

Anyway.

According to a friend of mine,

Maia had came up with the following possibilities:

1. Due to the "firing" incident in STOMP, Xiaxue might be in need of money
2. Using Maia to gain more hits to her blog

Sounds rather matured doesn't it? Perhaps.

Geez. Seriously, I think Maia shouldn't be on the list at all. Why? Well, It's suppose to be the "Top 7 Most Disgusting Bloggers". How the hell can you consider someone that apparently doesn't have a blog of her own, a blogger?

A blogger that doesn't own a blog - It really doesn't make any sense.

End.

No. 3 - Ice Angel (http://the-miracle-season.blogspot.com)

I am REALLY proud of Ice Angel aka Esther! And finally, an actual BLOGGER!

She's only 17, yet she has shown SO MUCH maturity in handling this "issue". Yes, she somewhat defended herself, or rather, rebuked, under the influence of her friends and supporters. But throughout her defence, she's clearly bringing across the message that "hey, she can say whatever she wants, it's her opinion, so be it".

Good job deary! Sweet!

P/s: By the way, she kinda sent me the draft of her entry before she posted it and I kinda encouraged her to be a little more sarcastic by rephrasing a particular sentence. However, she replied, "haha. that's very insulting leh. LOL. not my personality lorrrrrr." I'm truely impressed! I feel so ashamed...

No. 4 - Lao Zhao Bor (http://laozhabor.blogspot.com)

Fortunately LZB didn't bother responding, or may be she hasn't got to it yet. Whatever the case is, I would suggest not to. It's pointless. Like I've said, Xiaxue is "THE Blogging GODDESS".

LZB says:

Is my blog getting boring?

- YES it is, to me, at least.

No. 5 - Maddox

First and foremost (or "some people" would put it as "last and foremost"), WHAT? WHO?

I am not sure if he rebuked on this "issue". I'm sad to say, I can't bring myself to torture my eyes. Sorry.

No. 6 Xiaxue (http://xiaxue.blogspot.com or http://www.xiaxue.sg)

Do you think she would rebuke herself? Duh!

No. 7 - Celeste Chen (http://www.celestechen.com)

Well, she did rebuke, I think? I kinda went to her blog to take a quick peek, but after reading the first few sentences... Well, I just simply couldn't continue. So yeah. That's that.

And so it shows...

Yes, Xiaxue is so mean! She is such a bxxxx! She shouldn't be shown leniency! SHE SHOULD ROT IN HELL! SHE SUX!

BUT... We're still reading her blog, increasing her hits and being affected by the words she "types". Sigh. Aren't we all pathetic? Leveraging on others to somewhat increase our hits?

I feel so, very... Ashamed?
